Slack Productivity Shortcuts

Slack is the communication hub for most development teams. These keyboard shortcuts help you navigate channels, format messages, and manage notifications without reaching for the mouse.

Navigation

• Quick Switcher (⌘+K / Ctrl+K) — the most important Slack shortcut. Jump to any channel, DM, or person by typing part of the name.
• Search (⌘+G / Ctrl+G) — search messages across all channels
• Previous Unread (⌥+Shift+↑ / Alt+Shift+↑) — jump to the previous channel with unread messages
• Next Unread (⌥+Shift+↓ / Alt+Shift+↓) — jump to the next unread channel
• Show Threads (⌘+Shift+T / Ctrl+Shift+T) — open the Threads panel
• Show Activity (⌘+Shift+M / Ctrl+Shift+M) — see mentions and reactions

Message Formatting

In the message composer:

• Bold (⌘+B / Ctrl+B) — make text bold
• Italic (⌘+I / Ctrl+I) — make text italic
• Strikethrough (⌘+Shift+X / Ctrl+Shift+X) — add strikethrough
• Code Block (⌘+Shift+Enter / Ctrl+Shift+Enter) — insert a code block
• Inline Code — wrap text with backticks manually
• Blockquote — start a line with > followed by a space
• Bulleted List (⌘+Shift+8 / Ctrl+Shift+8) — create a bullet list
• Numbered List (⌘+Shift+7 / Ctrl+Shift+7) — create a numbered list

Quick Actions

• Edit Last Message (↑) — press up arrow in an empty composer to edit your last message
• React to Last (⌘+Shift+\\ / Ctrl+Shift+\\) — add an emoji reaction to the last message
• Mark All as Read (Shift+Esc) — clear all unread indicators in the current channel
• Upload File (⌘+U / Ctrl+U) — attach a file to the message
• Set Status (⌘+Shift+Y / Ctrl+Shift+Y) — update your status

Channel Management

• Browse Channels (⌘+Shift+L / Ctrl+Shift+L) — see all available channels
• Toggle Sidebar (⌘+Shift+D / Ctrl+Shift+D) — show or hide the channel sidebar
• New Message (⌘+N / Ctrl+N) — compose a new direct message
